Thanks again for helping us build an amazing produce offering for our community. Your feedback and support helping us build our ability to deliver and package produce is so appreciated.
One the things we’re dedicated to is full transparency. The food system is just so full of misleading claims. I think it’s such a disservice to those of us who want to invest in better food and stewardship. In that light, I want to share some feedback I shared with my team on last week’s package and touch on questions we received.
Below are the raw notes I shared with the rest of the TC Farm team in our Slack team chat after that first delivery:
Cucumbers are super fresh - that will go over well - they are always “on edge” at the grocery
Tomato: we knew would be a risk this time of year… not ripe, darn. Tasted good despite ripeness - a dash of salt and it was refreshing (obviously not a summer slicer) – I used in a cream chicken rice mushroom dish.
Squash is fun and different - a fair amount of seeds, but I think people will think it is fun to have.
As excited as I was for Cara Cara’s, I feel like these just needed a bit more time on the tree- it is funny cause I was worried we were past peak season but feels like these were rushed a bit - could be good to offer again in a month or early March – when they are perfect, they are just amazing.
Interesting to see how mature Featherstone let those carrots get. I’d be interested to know if their loose bulk (not bagged) carrots would be younger carrots or not? These were kind of “ok”. I’d like to ensure we have some of the specialty heritage genetics for the summer carrots – those are SO tasty.
Questions about the deposit came up a few times. Sorry that we weren’t super clear about how that works: Your $299 deposit will be applied as a credit each month during the June – October growing season where our farms are raising most of the food for all the produce CSA members. We wanted to ensure everyone was on the same payment schedule this summer to avoid confusion. If that is a burden for you, please reach out.
For this season’s early access program we obviously can’t have 100% local foods but we are still able to get some cool things to try. Next season, we have plans to extend our farms’ growing seasons knowing we have the members to support them. I am super excited for next winter’s crops.
I’ll answer more questions in the coming weeks. There were some interesting questions/comments on larger topics that I’d love to feature.
